Exercise – for mental health
Yes, we all workout to stay in shape, fit into our favorite clothes and to make heads turn. But exercising needs to be made a part of your routine to keep you elated, stress-free, occupied and for that much needed adrenaline! It is important to keep not just your body but your heart and mind healthy too. Make time for that one hour jog and see the difference!
Get that beauty sleep already
This year we want you to get more sleep! Don’t deprive your body of the rightful rest it needs. The best way to do this is to create a nighttime schedule for yourself. Try going to sleep at the same time everyday. It is difficult to tell you how essential sleep is for good health. It affects your immune system, hormones, appetite, weight, energy and so much more. So, beauty sleep isn’t just for those trying to look good, but for those trying to feel good too.
Meditate to stress a little less
You don’t need a fancy yoga class to mediate. Just a pick a quiet corner of your house, dim the lights, light some scented candles and shut out all external disturbances. Sit on the floor and just breathe in and breathe out. Let your mind wander free. Do this for 20 minutes. Then slowly bring your senses back to the room and open your eyes slowly. You will feel a sense of calm and numbness. This is nothing but you mind and body relaxing and stress going away. Make this a part of your daily routine and you’ll see how it makes you more productive.
Guzzle by the Gallon
Take small steps to increase your water intake everyday. Keep a water bottle in front of your desk or keep reminders on your phone. If you don’t like the taste of water much try infusing it with lemon, mint leaves or fruits for that added flavor.
Ditch the oily food
We have been saying this for a longgg time now, but please say no to oily food. Extra unhealthy oil in our food can only cause damage. Cholesterol and Heart Problems are the most famous reasons for quitting oil, but they cause a number of other illnesses like acid reflux, heart burn, obesity, etc. Switch to healthier alternatives available in the market like Baked Whole Grain Chips and Multigrain Chips.
Unplug now!
No! You don’t have to give up technology or social media. But this year do more things to unplug and reconnect with yourself, your loved ones and your surroundings. Maybe give yourself a few more minutes in the morning before you check your email or don’t charge your phone next to your bed. Maybe even take an hour off before you go to bed everyday. Start small.
Get creative with your healthy cooking
Plan to try out at least one healthy new recipe every month. Force feeding yourself foods you hate is a sure shot way of quitting your new resolution. Find the foods you love and indulge every now and then. Use them to cook a healthy recipe every first Sunday of the month and spend the next 3 Sundays perfecting it! For starters, try some Vegan Cheese with Low Calorie Tortilla Chips!
You don’t need to Gym everyday!
Add one low impact workout to your routine. You don’t need to do heavy workout everyday or go crazy at the Gym. Your gym instructor may not have told you yet but chances of injuring yourself with a strenuous workout are quite high. But we are not suggesting you stop them completely, but simply engage in lighter workout like Yoga or Pilates from time to time.
Cut down on smoking
More than all the other resolutions this one is something every smoker should do. But, it also the toughest to stick to. So, we ask you to not give it up completely. Start slow. Maybe reduce 2 the first week and every week reduce 2 more. Read the benefits of quitting smoking, find a group to do it with you, or just find alternatives, whatever gets you motivated.
Adopt a Pet or a Plant
It is a beautiful feeling when you are responsible for another living being. Apart from being responsible for it’s well being this also gives you a chance to see if you can care about something other than yourself. Whether you will be able to watch it grow or you’ve given up in the first week itself. Challenge yourself!
Bones are Important!
This is something you need to start focusing on as you grow older. Remind yourself to include calcium in your daily diet to avoid osteoporosis. Try going for the skim milk, low fat cheese and yoghurt options. You could even try non dairy options like white beans, flax seeds, figs, broccoli, etc.
Make more time for yourself
Spend more time doing the things you love. You don’t need to wait for company or approvals. If you think it makes you happy, just do it. Go for hike, dance, paint, dress up for a party or eat the food you’ve been craving for! It is OK to say NO and spend all day in bed.
