Festival meal planning to make this festive season brighter!

We live in the land of festivals. Being one of the most diverse countries in the world, India celebrates festivals from every caste, creed and religion with the same excitement. Most people count the days leading up to the festival and look forward to the delicious food and festive cheer of the season. With festivals such as Dussehra, Diwali and Bhai dooj right around the corner, we have decided to go over some of our favourite festive dishes for you.

Dussehra
Dussehra takes place at the end of Navratri every year. It marks the tenth day of the Durga Puja, on this day the Goddess Durga triumphed over the demon Mahishasura. The day of Dussehra is also when Lord Rama defeated Ravana and the Pandava Arjuna took down 1 lakh enemy soldiers in his battle against the Kauravas. For this reason, Dussehra is synonymous with the victory of good over evil. Popular snacks that are eaten during Dussehra are jalebi, fafda, laddu, shrikhand, gulab jamun, puri and many others.

Diwali
Fondly known as the festival of lights, Diwali is a Hindu festival that has been adopted by Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains because of its message and religious importance. The use of lights during Diwali is a metaphor for the importance of knowledge and illumination in our lives. It is believed that the goddess of happiness and good fortune, Lakshmi, walks the earth on this day and enters houses that are pure, clean and bright. Some well-known Diwali snacks are the puran poli, karanji, chivda, besan laddu, shankarpali, chakli and soan papdi. You can also serve tasty and healthy snacks such as baked bhakarwadi and date pops to add more variety to your Diwali platter.

Bhai Dooj
Bhai dooj is a festival celebrated during Diwali. As part of the rituals, sisters pray for the good health and happy lives of their brothers and in turn brothers shower them with gifts, love, affection and the promise to protect them. It has many other popular names such as Bhai Tika, Bhau Beej, Bhatru Dviteeya etc. Staple snacks during this festival are the kaju katli, moong dal halwa, khoya barfi, malpua, khandvi and gajar ka halwa.
