  • 4 whole red peppers

  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp soya sauce
  • 1 tsp chilli sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
Preparation for homemade schezwan sauce begins by deseeding and soaking whole red peppers in a bowl of hot water for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes have passed, add cornflour and water to a bowl and mix it until the corn flour turns into a paste. Add the soaked chillies, cornflour paste, chopped onions, decloved garlic and ginger into a blender. Blend these ingredients together into a thick paste and put it aside. Heat oil in a pan. Pour the blended paste onto the pan and allow it to boil. Once the mixture has boiled, lower the heat and add chilli powder, vinegar, soya sauce, chilli sauce and salt.
